Villa Aurora expands its borders and brings work by the Villa's
current Fuechtwanger Fellow (artist-in-exile), Mary Amin Ayubi to
Wasan Island, Ontario Canada on August 3, 2007 as part of the
freeDIMENSIONAL Network 2007 retreat; a retreat designed to bring
together human rights organizations and residences from around the
world to discuss future collaborations and matters of urgent concern
regarding the placement of artists, writers, and journalists in peril.
Mary Amin Ayubi's film Afghanistan: Unveiled", the first ever film
about Afghan women by Afghan women, was initiated by AINA, the Afghan
Media and Cultural Center. Mary Amin Ayubi is also co-director of "
Shadows", the autobiographical story of a young video journalist
trained by AINA, who explores the issue of women's rights in her
country while traveling across Afghanistan. In the background, her
personal and often intimate diary acts as a complement to the
narration.
