What kind of stapler for stretching canvas giclees?

by Robert Montgomery <info-block@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 19, 2008 at 07:57 PM

What staplers are good for stretching canvas giclees?

I saw some canvas-stretching videos on the Net, and in one of them, the
artist recommended a manual stapler and three-eighth-inch staples.

I bought a heavy-duty Stanley Sharpshooter stapler and a box of Arrow
T-50 three-eighth-inch staples from a hardware store (compatible with
the stapler) but the staples wouldn't go all the way into the wood.

So I bought a box of one-quarter-inch staples (the shortest for that can
be used in the stapler) and they also protude from the wood.

My first experiment was to use an office supply stapler, and those
staples penetrated more easily, but also don't penetrate the wood
properly. They became bent as they went into the wood, so the stapling
looks sloppy.

I prefer not to use an electric stapler for simplicity, and because they
meke more noise than the manual staplers.

The wood is standard stretcher bar wood (pine, I think) from a reputable
art supply store chain. The company doesn't sell staplers.
