.Fishy Eye Arts

Conceived in 1996 by visual artist Paula Sigley, Fishy Eye Arts has
worked in the non-profit sphere of the contem****y arts world,
considering art an experience intricate to human exisitence rather than
a commodity to be bought and sold.
Operated out of Paula's 'Fish Eye View' gallery and Studio in
Brighton on the south coast of England the last nine years have been a
non stop joy ride to the complex nerve centre of mixed medium art
production.
During the summer of 1996 Paula Sigley had an oppotunity to sell work
directly after acquiring a seafront archway on Brighton's busy
esplanade.
After Forming part of a celebrity charity auction in the 1997 that
resulted in successful sales to the Royal academy Fishy Eye Arts fused
a connection with The Brighton Festival culminating in the public
exhibition of Paula Sigley's 'Womb Room' installation in 1998.
The 'Womb Room' was sub sequentially featured on international news
channel CNN.
The studio became a hotbed of creation and networking for local
photographers, artists and musicians in the late nineties and
throughout the year 2000.
2001 included several limited edition releases of video art and a
feature on 'ITVnetwork' about the studio and the constantly
evolving art work of Paula Sigley.
In the spring of 2002 Fishy Eye Arts found itself in the eye of a media
storm when Paula Sigley's extravagant exhibition at a former diamond
factory by Hove beach resulted in equal controversy and praise from the
community.
Through out the remainder of 2002 Fishy Eye Arts embarked on a tour of
art and music exhibitions with legendary underground label 'Scrap
Records'. Ranging from a fully fledged exhibition of Paula's
painting and sculpture work at revered London gallery 'The
Foundry' to the construction of elaborate stage props for band
performances, blurring the divisions between performance art,
installation art and punk rock.
After the scandal of 'Brighton Peace & Environment centres'
eviction from its established shop and community centre in the city
Fishy Eye Arts and Scrap Records collaborated once again, creating a
tem****ary gallery of art and music venue out of the empty building
In the same year David Warrior joined Fishy Eye Arts proceeding to
elevate its global presence by a campaign of multimedia promotion
including the 2003 launch of FishyEyeArts.com.
For the duration of 2003 Fishy Eye Arts worked in co-operation with the
original Brighton Fringe Festival, presenting an urban art trail across
of the city allowing local artists to be represented boldly as part of
Brighton's annual cultural celebrations.
Fishy Eye Arts also organised an end of festival party and art auction
at a popular city cultural bar as a finale to Paula Sigleys own Fringe
exhibition.
2004 was a time of reflection and exploration for the studio as Paula
Sigley took a year out from exhibiting to develop new works combining
digital media and traditional oil painting whilst the art world in
Brighton became increasingly commercialised
Networks of non profit grassroots artists found it difficult to survive
and so a change of focus and direction for Fishy Eye Arts was
formulated in 2005.
Fishy Eye Arts is now emerging as a wider ranging and larger network of
predominantly female artists with the emphasis on bringing the
op****tunity of involvement with the arts to every sector of the
community.
Fishy Eye Arts is pleased in 2005 to welcome the addition of two more
permanent members; Mariam Darbinean and Jane Haworth.

Projects currently being put into action include:

*The continued development of Fishy Eye Arts video & animation
production - working toward a 24 hour streamed internet video art
channel.

*A unique touring puppet show for children, utilising the distinct
design and environmental ethics of the network.

*Regular children's workshops in house at the studio and at various
community centres in the city.

*The on-going process of producing and promoting contem****ary visual
art with more exhibitions and collaborations planned.

*Aiming to inspire other individuals to form ethical networks of
artists, musicians and film makers

Keep an eye on Fishy Eye Arts as we continue to transform a belief and
passion in art into a vibrant and exciting reality.
