Iron Turtle

by "Thomas Keske" <ptkeske@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 23, 2008 at 12:49 AM

IRON TURTLE

With undue drama, an eagle soars
But the turtle best prepares for war

To unsafe heights, the eagle climbs
The turtle sits, and bides his time

The eagle disdains all that is weak
Sharp is his claw, crooked is his beak

False symbol of brave and noble things
is a mask for tyrant, feathered kings

Life below brings insult and mocking
but the turtle's tough shell blunts the sting

Creating foes is not his nature
Attacking none, his homeland secure

Now he basks in sun and sky of blue-
the former place, where eagles once flew

Iron Turtle

Praise to the PRC and Cultural mister in the value of
such a rare piece of early Chinese heritage in the
powerful business of trading silk with the west.
The article briefly mentioned that western scientists
had assisted in the research of the ancient Mongolian
myth of an "Iron Turtle" that guarded the great northern city.

Soldier at the ready!" he barked. Eight Lieutenants barked the
same order to their tent mates. "Turtle formation!
Get there damn you!" There was a sudden need to hurry as
Tiberius watched two of his archers fall from the towers
of the gates from return volleys of arrows from horse born
archery of the Mongols. Impossible as it seemed, they were
more accurate firing from horseback than his ill trained
farmers firing from a higher position.

A cheer rang out from behind them on the city walls as the
siege equipment fell and the Mongols rode about in complete
disorder. No longer able to knock down the city gates they
rode about in confusion at the failure.

"Ready about" cried Tiberius, eager to return to the safety
of the walled city. Seven voices echoed his command,
one of the Lieutenants having been killed holding his ranks.
"About face!" The turtle of men reversed its advance back
towards the city gate. The few Barbarians that stood between
it and them quickly rode out of harms way. In the wake
of their path lay a hundred horses and men like broken trees
after a windstorm.

"Why can't they just find another desert to blow up their
stupid bomb on? Aren't there a million other places that
nuclear weapons could be detonated? Why can't they just
blow it up underground like everyone else these days?"
David smirked. It was probably Beth's ties to the
anti-nuclear protesters back in the United States that
convinced the PRC to allow the westerners into this barren
Mongolian desert. How better to embarrass the American
government than grant one of its vocal dissenters an
archeological license where so many others had been snubbed.
They had also quickly turned down requests by the CIA to help
collect intelligence on their trip. Some things never changed.

The turtle tactic is a common counter to the rush tactic, and
therefore in many games it carries the connotation of being
unskilled or new to the game. In games where there is some
sort of limit on the size of one's forces (e.g. StarCraft,
the Age of Empires series and the Total Annihilation series),
the turtler may wish to build as few low-tech units as soon
as possible in order to build a larger number of advanced
units later.

The turtle is actually a small transmitter that sends meter readings
over the power lines to receivers at JNEC's substations.
The transmitter earns the "turtle" name from the fact that
it transmits the readings slowly - taking more than 24 hours
for a reading to get from a transmitter to a receiver.
Readings are then relayed by phone and collected at the
co-op office.

Turtles flocking to nuclear facility

St. Petersburg Times, published April 4, 2001

CRYSTAL RIVER -- Nearly 40 endangered sea turtles have entered an '
intake canal at Florida Power's nuclear facility in the past
month, baffling plant officials and causing alarm among a
watchdog organization.

All but two of the 38 turtles survived and were put back in
the gulf. One was apparently dead before entering the canal
and another died inside, said Florida Power spokesman Mac Harris.

The turtles, mostly Kemp's ridleys, were presumably in search
of food. Warm water discharged by the plant attracts a variety
of aquatic life.

Most of the turtles were between 3 and 4 years old, measured
about 10 inches and weighed about 10 pounds, Harris said.

Because the number of live "takes" in one month approaches
the federal two-year limit of 50, Florida Power plans to lobby
the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for an expanded threshold.
Currently, the plant faces a two-year federal limit of three
fatalities. This is not the first time the plant has had a
sudden influx of turtles. In April 1998, officials re****ted
that more than three dozen federally protected creatures entered
the intake canal. Most were retrieved alive, but eight were dead.

Atomic Turtle is part of a series I did relating to the discovery
of the atom and nuclear technology. Everything on this earth
consists of and is made up of the atom and its energy.
There are many tribes on the east coast of America
that have a creation story of how their tribe came
to be on the back of a giant turtle. This piece discusses
the differences between a man made creation versus a
creation with true harmony with the earth.
