-----------

You never know what it is,
but you always know
when you have lost it.

The core has gone critical,
becoming an accelerating reaction
going into meltdown.

You find no peace,
but they won't let you
go to war.

The familiar looks strange,
and the strange,
looks far too familiar.

You can't seem to find it
no matter how hard you look,
and it can't seem to find you.

You have dozens of explanations,
some of them make sense,
but none of them are true.

Whatever there is
now never seems to be enough,
takes too long and goes too slow.

You need to break out,
from walls that are closing in,
but you find no real escape.

They offer helpings of boredom
while much of what you know
proves itself to be toxic waste.

If the sky is the limit,
you can't stop there
you have to go beyond that.

-----------

Dancing all night,
unwinding like wind up toys,
wanting to be played with,
by the right players
playing the right games.

Dancing all night,
could dance a thousand nights,
never wanting to stop,
looking for dangerous stories
with more satisfying plots.

Dancing all night,
can't get enough,
when it's all that we've got
is dancing with the night,
until the music stops.
